The Dorset Equine Rescue is an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in the beautiful Green Mountains of Dorset, Vermont. We are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of neglected, abused and slaughter bound horses. Horses come to us from a variety of situations, including many from owner surrenders. About Kids Saving the Rainforest
Kids Saving the Rainforest is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded by two 9 year old girls in 1999 for the purpose of educating people around the world about the ecological importance of the rainforest, and to set-up programs to preserve and protect the rainforest and its wildlife. KSTR’s wildlife rescue center rehabilitates and releases injured, sick and orphaned animals back to the wild. Animals that can never be released because they were either raised in captivity as illegal pets and became reliant on humans for food or permanently injured or disabled are cared for in KSTR’s sanctuary. Horse Haven of Tennessee’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home God’s neglected or abused horses through programs of shelter, adoption, education, and assistance. Through love and nourishment, we work to heal the mental, physical, and emotional health of each mini horse in hopes that they will one day find a wonderful forever home.

There is a wonderful network of angels that raise funds and pool resources to save as many of these horses as possible in hopes of offering them a new start in life. July 16, 2021 (Bethune, SC) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Verified status to Second Wind Thoroughbred Project (SWTP) as of June 29, 2021.

Verification means that Second Wind Thoroughbred Project meets the criteria of a true equine sanctuary/rescue and is providing humane and responsible care of the animals. To be awarded Verified status, an organization must meet GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed animal care standards which are confirmed by a site visit and they must also adhere to a demanding set of ethical and operational principles. The Verification status also provides a clear and trusted means for the public, donors, and grantors to recognize SWTP as an exceptional organization.

“We are proud to announce the recent Verification of Second Wind Thoroughbred Project,” said Daryl Tropea Ph.D., GFAS Program Director-Equine. “This organization is dedicated to finding every horse that enters their program, the most appropriate home for their individual needs, abilities and temperament. When horses first arrive at this beautiful facility, they spend a few months adjusting to a new life away from the racetrack. With attention to their mental and physical rehabilitation, each horse is introduced to new activities such as dressage, jumping, polo, trail riding, or simply being a companion animal for both people and other equines.”

Founder and president Dayle Eldredge created Second Wind Thoroughbred Project with her mother and lifelong friend in 2015. What makes the program unique is its core group of people. They were all horse-loving teens whose passion was ignited when they started riding Thoroughbreds. They all became industry experts who have had lifelong careers at the highest levels of the profession in both the racing and horse show worlds. Second Wind is located just outside of Camden, S.C. The area’s historic Thoroughbred-focused community boasts many training centers, the Steeplechase Hall of Fame, and the South Carolina Horse Park.
