September 28, 2017 (Puslinch, ON) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Accredited status to The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada as of September 28, 2017.

Accreditation signifies that The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada meets GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed equine care standards which are confirmed by a comprehensive site visit. Accreditation also signifies adherence to standards addressing the sustainability of the organization, ethical principles, finances, staffing, education outreach, security and safety and other operational aspects.

(Cozumel, Mexico) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Verified status to Rancho Universo A.C. Heal a Horse Sanctuary as of September 1, 2017.

Verification means that Rancho Universo A.C. Heal a Horse Sanctuary meets the criteria of a true equine sanctuary/rescue and is providing humane and responsible care of the animals. To be awarded Verified status, an organization must meet GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed animal care standards which are confirmed by a site visit and they must also adhere to a demanding set of ethical and operational principles. The verification status also provides a clear and trusted means for the public, donors and grantors to recognize Rancho Universo A.C. Heal a Horse Sanctuary as an exceptional organization.

About The Horse Shelter

The Horse Shelter was founded in 2000, is located in Cerrillos, NM on 300+ acres of beautiful high desert country, about 20 miles south of Santa Fe.  The mission of The Horse Shelter is to serve as a sanctuary for New Mexico’s abandoned, abused and neglected horses. Rescued horses are rehabilitated and adopted out whenever possible to homes that support their well-being and future long-term care.  Caring for between 70 and 80 horses in residence at any time, the organization continually needs support to feed, rehabilitate, train and find adoptive homes for the rescued horses. About Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary

Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary was established as a non-profit animal welfare organization in 2011-its mission is to provide aid and sanctuary to abused, neglected, abandoned or donated horses in need; work with law enforcement and other agencies to rectify situations in which horses are in peril; provide horses in Sanctuary with needed medical care, proper nutrition and a health plan to restore them physically and mentally for a new life; continue educational and fundraising efforts to support rescue efforts and to promote awareness of issues involving neglect and abuse.  Since 2011, Missouri Forget Me Not has taken in more than 200 horses, performed 135 adoptions and facilitated other horses being sponsored or sheltered in a network of foster homes. (Fairplay, CO) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Verified status to Far View Horse Rescue as of December 2, 2016.

Verification means that Far View Horse Rescue meets the criteria of a true equine sanctuary/rescue and is providing humane and responsible care of the animals. To be awarded Verified status, an organization must meet GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed animal care standards which are confirmed by a site visit and they must also adhere to a demanding set of ethical and operational principles. The verification status also provides a clear and trusted means for the public, donors and grantors to recognize Far View Horse Rescue as an exceptional organization.

About Far View Horse Rescue
For Far View Horse Rescue, fulfilling their mission of rescuing, training, educating and placing equines in adoptive homes, is so important.  The organization provides a much-needed equine rescue and rehabilitation facility, in a mostly rural environment where property requirements, extreme weather, economic pressures and a lack of equine knowledge, result in unwanted horses.  Far View offers a neutral environment, where horse owners feel comfortable to call and ask for help, whether it be advice, monetary help for gelding a horse, providing temporary hay help, or finding a new home. About Serenity Farm Equine Sanctuary

Located on 21 acres of grassy pastures, fields, and wooded horse trails in Louisa County, VA, Serenity Farm Equine Sanctuary was incorporated as a 501c3 in 2016 to support the right of all equines to live a quality life.  The organization accepts all breeds of horses and donkeys through law enforcement seizures and owner surrenders, and provides them with rehabilitation, gentling, and basic training.  The organization was founded by Rhondavena and Bill LaPorte, who are life-long equine enthusiasts.  The property which Serenity Farm is located on was purchased by the Laporte’s, and soon began the goal of helping horses in need.  There have been many improvements made to the property to enable the start-up of the rescue.
